At Realize LIVE Europe 2026, Siemens emphasized the need for AI systems to operate alongside employees and within existing business processes rather as a standalone technology layer. The firm positioned its Mendix offering as a core part of the Intelligence Center X platform through which customers can transition from today’s ‘digital’ enterprise to tomorrow’s ‘agentic’ one, where AI agents orchestrate E2E processes with human supervision. Siemens highlighted one of manufacturers’ most common struggles with AI: moving beyond pilot stages. Citing that 74% of pilots fail to reach production, Siemens reports that projects deployed with a governed and shared context are three times more likely to succeed, emphasizing the importance of concretely attaching valuable data and know-how to agentic workflows.

A central theme throughout Siemens’s presentations at the event was that the barriers to enterprise AI adoption are often architectural rather than model-related. Three common challenges noted were:

  1. Insufficient institutional context. Systems lack access to operational knowledge, business rules, historical decisions and domain expertise; they are, therefore, unable to produce the required reliable outcomes.
  2. Lack of unified governance framework. Tools are unable to make AI actions visible, auditable and controllable across the enterprise.
  3. Patched-on AI applications. Many business applications are being retrofitted with AI capabilities rather than being designed around AI-native workflows, leading to poor use experiences and fragmented handoffs between systems and workers.

Siemens’s Intelligence Center X platform, which includes Mendix, is being positioned as a framework for the agentic application development, orchestration and governance required for manufacturers to see success in the agentic transition. The solution supports the entire software life cycle, all empowered by a platform-based design that can address integration governance and security at scale, which is critical for enterprise-grade customers.

Siemens is emphasizing the governance element as one of Intelligence Center X’s strongest differentiators, brought to it through Mendix. It has embedded agent observability directly into the development environment, allowing users to test, monitor and trace behaviour throughout the design and deployment process. Traceability functionality captures the reasoning steps, tool calls and outputs generated by agents, supporting compliance and trust, as well as providing insight into AI costs, allowing organizations to understand token consumption and associated operational costs at a granular level. Such visibility will become increasingly important as manufacturers seek to identify where automation delivers measurable value and where human oversight remains more cost-effective.

This focus on governance maps onto Siemens’s goal to enable the shift-left movement occurring across enterprise software and application development. Value creation is increasingly concentrated around business intent, product and process design, and governance structures, while traditional coding – even low-/no-code development – is delegated to agents. This is exemplified in Mendix’s transition from a low/no-code development tool to a complete agentic lifecycle management platform.

Siemens is also infusing AI capabilities directly into Mendix, designing AI assistant Maia to bridge the gap between business intent and technical implementation. This predominantly consists of two tools. Maia Plan focuses on converting ideas and user stories into structured application plans, helping users to define intent, refine project scope and develop implementation roadmaps while encouraging reuse of trusted enterprise components and best practices. Once requirements are established, Maia Make assists with the construction of applications. Together, these tools represent Siemens’s broader ambition to automate the application development process while maintaining robust human oversight on governance and decision-making. The ecosystem is not closed around Siemens’s models, with customers able to bring their own models – such as Claude Code – into the Mendix platform.

The ecosystem positioning is enhanced with the Mendix Marketplace, where customers can access a wide range of pre-built applications, components and agents. This is highly valuable for SMB manufacturers seeking to accelerate deployment timelines and quickly realize operational value without heavy in-house investment.

Siemens’s case study with manufacturing firm Jabil reflects the value that can be derived from the platform at scale. Jabil has deployed more than 100 Mendix applications to help standardize operations worldwide, including an AI-powered diagnostics solution that delivered a 25% improvement in defect analysis speed, a 20% improvement in support diagnostics and resolution speed, and a 15% reduction in scrap and rework.
