Executive Summary

The mindset of many corporate EHS managers is shifting to employ a more overarching risk-based approach. What does this mean for combining EHS and quality (EHSQ) management? Firms are increasingly perceiving the alignment between EHS and quality processes and are leveraging both efficiencies and incident prevention using: 1) an organizational strategy for EHSQ management; and 2) technology that enables this strategy. This report serves as a lens for global EHS executives to recognize the business activities that cut across EHS and quality, and ask themselves five strategic questions that investigate the EHSQ potential. This report also contrasts three different scenarios of EHSQ integration so that corporate managers can gauge their firm’s current status, identify objectives for future integration, and prepare their strategies and resources accordingly.
