Executive Summary

This report provides executive directors, practice leaders and business development executives at management consulting firms with an analysis of China’s evolving sustainability consulting landscape. To better understand Chinese sustainability practices and trends, Verdantix analysed China-based responses for energy, EH&S and sustainability management from our three global surveys of 250-plus leaders across 21 industries. Verdantix finds that firms in China typically rely on internal employees and cross-functional collaboration, with minimal budgets for sustainability consulting and flat spend growth expectations. Chinese firms are just beginning to strengthen their reporting capabilities with a focus on EH&S information management and energy data collection. Verdantix analysis finds that firms that take a long-term view will benefit from the latent demand caused by long-term regulatory policies, restructuring of political incentives and the disconnect between reporting and performance realities.
