Executive Summary

The sustainability consulting market has evolved into a crowded landscape with firms such as the ‘Big Four’ audit providers, management consulting firms, engineering and environmental services providers and boutique sustainability consulting providers. This report helps executive directors and Chief Marketing Officers at business consulting and services firms measure how heads of sustainability perceive their brand and help them benchmark levels of awareness and engagement among their customer base. Verdantix interviewed 260 senior sustainability leaders at firms with annual revenues from $250 million to over $20 billion, representing 21 industries and 13 territories. Verdantix asked survey participants about current and future engagements with, and their perception of, 22 sustainability strategy services and business consulting firms and compared the results with the 2012 survey. Verdantix finds that the Big Four audit firms dominate existing sustainability strategy consulting engagements and are best positioned to capitalize on future opportunities.
