EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report provides executives in the smart grid ecosystem with an independent analysis of Honeywell’s automated demand response (ADR) project in the UK, announced on January 24, 2012, and its ADR strategy targeting the European market. Verdantix selected this subject for detailed study because ongoing trends in the European electricity markets, such as growing peak electricity demands and rising electricity prices, are improving the case for demand management programmes in Europe. To better understand this topic we interviewed a senior member of Honeywell’s Buildings Solutions team and analysed data collected from the Verdantix quarterly Smart Grid Deal Tracker. Following the launch of its ADR solution in the UK, Honeywell is looking to seize ADR opportunities in Europe. Honeywell, and other ADR providers, must work to clear regulatory hurdles, enhance the intelligence of its ADR solutions and educate businesses and utilities unfamiliar with ADR programmes.
