Executive Summary

Telecoms services, such as smart meter connectivity, telecommuting, fleet telematics and video collaboration play an important role in delivering sustainability programme targets such as fuel efficiency, energy cost reduction and travel substitution. This Green Quadrant report provides a detailed, fact-based comparison of nine sustainable telecoms solutions provided by the 17 largest telecoms operators in the European market. The analysis finds that three telcos — AT&T, BT and Orange — lead the European market for sustainable telecoms due to their deep organizational commitment, broad solution portfolios and best-in-class corporate sustainability performance. Key findings for other telecoms operators to improve their performance are the need to review sustainability messages for relevant solutions, better connect corporate performance with market offerings and enhance investment in the development of sustainability services. The report explains which questions buyers need to include to create telecoms supplier short-lists and to probe for capabilities in requests for proposal.
